Wiring, block diagrams and application examples - SmartRelay AX Classic

Basically, you have two options for connecting the reader to the controller. The difference is the power supply to the reader:

  • The reader has no external power supply and is powered by the controller (direct connection).
  • Reader features an external power supply.

NOTE

notice

Operating voltage not reached

When selecting the power source, keep in mind that voltage drops may occur in live cables, potentially leading to a drop in operating voltage. Malfunctions may occur as a result. You can reduce a voltage drop using the following measures:

  1. Increase the operating voltage on the controller.
  2. Increase the connection cable cross-section.
  3. Equip the reader with its own power supply unit.

Direct connection (without external power supply)

A shielded, four-pole cable is required for direct connection. Power is supplied via the controller.

See Information on cabling for cable lengths and types.

Connection with external power supply

You require a shielded, three-pole cable to the controller to connect to an external power supply. Power is supplied via a separate power supply unit near the reader. The power supply is more stable for long cable lines with this connection variant.

See Information on cabling for cable lengths and types.
